What is Settlement Support New Zealand (SSNZ) ?

Settlement Support New Zealand is a government-funded initiative intended to help you settle in your local community.
It provides easy access to the information that you need about the services that are available in your local area
to support your settlement.
There are 19 local Settlement Support initiatives around New Zealand and each SSNZ site can provide you and your family with local information, and connect you with services that you may need to support your settlement.

How Does SSNZ Work?

• It identifies the settlement needs of newcomers and services that can meet them.
• It connects newcomers with information and services that support their settlement.
• It supports mainstream services to meet the settlement needs of newcomers.
• It provides a clear point of contact to inform newcomers about settlement information.

CLEAR POINT OF CONTACT - We help to locate local information and services for newcomers to the region and access the free service for information and referral available to meet their settlement needs through websites, free phones, brochures, and face to face service.

ORIENTATION & INFORMATION WORKSHOPS/SEMINARS/FORUMS - We run regular orientation programmes, information seminars and workshops for newcomers to our region regarding tax system, health, and job winning in NZ, NZ law etc. and many more.

NEWSLETTERS/COMMUNICATIONS BY ELECTRONIC MEANS or MAIL - We network with local mainstream providers, not for profit organisation, companies and individuals with details of upcoming events by newsletter, email, telephone and flyers.

ACCESS TO INTERPRETER SERVICES - There are professionally trained interpreters registered with services in New Plymouth and other areas that can be accessed through us.

A LINK TO CULTURAL GROUPS - The Settlement Support co-ordinator can put you in touch with other newcomers and people settled here successfully who speak the same language, or who are from the same country. Community and support groups are also available for people for social network. Taranaki Multicultural Council is a good organisation for social contact for you and your family to mingle with people from different cultures.

SSNZ in New Plymouth

SSNZ in New Plymouth is based at Level 1, Kings Building, 36 Devon Street West. You can get settlement information by telephone, email or by visiting the contact point at the above address. Our contact hours are
9am-4pm Monday to Friday. Preferably phone to arrange an appointment to meet with our Settlement Support
Co-ordinator, who has all up to date information required.
